Summary
Kioku is a privacy-first product. Your conversations, prompts, and highlights are stored exclusively in your browser's local IndexedDB and never transmitted to our servers. The only network call we make is when verifying a Pro license you have purchased.
Data we collect
1. Locally on your device (never leaves your browser)
- Conversations captured from chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai, and grok.com (titles, message bodies, timestamps, original URLs)
- Prompts you save in the Prompt Library (title, body, tags, target AIs)
- Highlights you create (selected text, source AI, optional notes/tags)
- Folders and tags you create
- Your extension settings (UI language, archive state, etc.)
This data lives only in your browser's IndexedDB (named kioku).
We have no access to it. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of this data.
2. On our servers (Pro users only)
When you purchase Pro, we collect the following minimum required data for billing and license delivery:
- Email address (for license delivery and customer support)
- Stripe customer ID (for billing)
- Plan type and subscription status
We do not store your conversations, prompts, or highlights on our servers, ever.
3. License verification (only when Pro license is set)
If you have entered a Pro license, the extension calls kio-ku.com/api/license/verify
with your license key (a JWT) to confirm validity. No conversation data is ever sent in this request.
Free users make zero network calls from the extension.
Cookies and tracking
The Kioku Chrome extension uses no cookies and no analytics. The kio-ku.com website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics (privacy-focused, no cookies, no fingerprinting).
Third parties
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare — hosting and CDN. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Resend — transactional email (license delivery only). Resend's privacy policy.
Data retention
Local conversations: retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the extension.
Server-side billing data: retained for the duration of your subscription and up to 7 years after for tax/accounting compliance, then deleted.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, APPI)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. To exercise these rights, email [email protected] with your request and the email associated with your purchase.
Most data is local — to delete conversations, simply delete them in the extension or uninstall it.
Children
Kioku is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be announced via the extension popup and on this page. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
