Summary
Kioku is a privacy-first product. Your conversations are stored exclusively in your browser's local IndexedDB and never transmitted to our servers, except for an optional opt-in AI tagging feature (Pro tier).
Data we collect
1. Locally on your device
- Conversations from chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com (titles, message bodies, timestamps)
- Folders and tags you create
- Your extension settings
This data lives only in your browser's IndexedDB. We have no access to it.
2. On our servers (Pro users only)
When you purchase Pro, we collect:
- Email address (for license delivery and customer support)
- Stripe customer ID (for billing)
- Plan type and subscription status
We do not store your conversations on our servers, ever.
3. Optional: AI auto-tagging (Pro feature, off by default)
If you enable AI auto-tagging, Kioku sends the first 3 messages of new conversations to Anthropic's API (Claude Haiku 4.5) to generate topic tags. The API call is stateless — Anthropic does not retain prompts sent via the API per their data usage policies. Kioku itself does not log or store the request.
You can disable this feature in extension settings at any time.
Cookies and tracking
The Kioku Chrome extension uses no cookies and no analytics. The kio-ku.com website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics (privacy-focused, no cookies, no fingerprinting).
Third parties
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare — hosting and CDN. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Anthropic — AI tagging (only if you opt in). Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Resend — transactional email (license delivery). Resend's privacy policy.
Data retention
Local conversations: retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the extension.
Server-side billing data: retained for the duration of your subscription and up to 7 years after for tax/accounting compliance, then deleted.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, APPI)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. To exercise these rights, email [email protected] with your request and the email associated with your purchase.
Most data is local — to delete conversations, simply delete them in the extension or uninstall it.
Children
Kioku is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be announced via the extension popup and on this page. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
